The Sandstone Volunteer Group comprises individual & club climbers and others who have an interest in maintaining the rock and environment of the sandstone crags in Kent and East Sussex by:
- disseminating the objects of 'The Sandstone Code' and encouraging good practice' which will prevent the heavy wear and tear to which the rock has been subjected over many years
- carrying out work to clear overgrowth and brush where appropriate
- repairing damaged rock, discouraging grafitti and other gratuitous damage
- recognizing and protecting unique areas of rock where botanical or geological SSSI status could threaten future access
- encouraging participation in projects as they arise by enlisting the help of professional and voluntary bodies, where applicable, and the climbing community
- creating sustainable use of this unique climbing area through maintaining good relationships with the owners and custodians of the crags

Spring Clearance
It is planned to carry out a day of scrub clearance and general maintenance of the crag at Harrisons Rocks on Saturday 25th April 2009.
Our friends from Croydon Mountaineering Club will also be out on that day.
We've not organised any other days of crag clearance this year and it would be appreciated if as many as possible could help out on that day.
We'll meet in the Harrisons Car Park at 09:30. Please being the usual tools if you have them - pruners, swop hook, secateurs, bowsaw and maybe a spade. It's also advisable to wear old clothes and bring some gloves - some of the brambles can be a bit vicious! Wellies or walking boots are also advisable.
We'll work on until the late afternoon and, if the weather's good, most likely climb for a while afterwards so a packed lunch might also be a good idea.
If you've not helped out on an SVG day before, please don't be shy - it's great fun and you'll be putting something worthwhile back into climbing. If you have helped out before, you know what to expect!
Please do not bring chainsaws (!) unless you've full public liability insurance and are certified to use them - If you have one please contact me first.
Any queries, please ask.
Please pass this email on to anyone else you think may be able to help.
Many thanks,
Graham.
Graham Adcock.
